Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to analyze the circular economy and its importance of it in the urban context of circular cities. Methodology: A bibliometric review was performed based on the Web of Science platform. 378 articles were selected with 3 refinements related to the type of document, year of publication and open access articles. The compilation of the database took place in the RStudio program using the Bibliometrix package. Limitation: due to difficulties in collecting 2022 data, it was decided to keep the complete data contained in the index. Results: The results showed a great relationship between themes, authors, countries and keywords, which elucidates the importance of this theme at a global level, highlighting the journal Sustainability with 155 published articles and the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands with 47 articles with by its researchers. Originality: The search for sustainable practices has gained prominence among companies and large corporations as a strategic measure to reduce costs, but recently the concept of circular cities has received contributions that seek to support public policy makers to take better care of the environment.
