Abstract

Neighborhoods, municipalities, states and even countries experience a process of continuous change caused by migratory currents, which determine the desire to stay or leave our place of residence. This study sought to identify the variables of attraction and repulsion in the Brazilian city of Nilópolis, identifying signs of dissatisfaction that can cause population reduction and the consequent phenomenon of shrinking cities. The methodology used was the content analysis proposed by Bardin (2011) carried out through face-to-face interviews in the search for factors of residential attraction and repulsion. With this, enough material was obtained to conclude that there is in fact an exodus of residents out of the municipality not yet verified by the IBGE and consequently without having exactly the impact that this may have on the demographic decline of the city.
