Purpose: This research has sought to assess whether the events sector presents concerns in terms of sociocultural sustainability, through the study of the event Traça – Mostra de Filmes de Arquivo de Família, which took place in Bairro do Rego, in Lisbon (Portugal), from 13th to 15th October 2023. Methodology/Approach: The methodology adopted is predominantly qualitative. Through the literature review, a relationship was established between the events sector and the concept of sustainability, and the study of Traça enabled the analysis of the applicability of sociocultural sustainability in this event. The research carried out during and after the event used direct participant observation and semi-structured interviews with the event’s management team and the local community, which complemented the research. Findings: It was concluded that the events sector demonstrates growing concerns towards sociocultural sustainability, presenting measures that seek to minimise the impacts caused by and contributing to sustainable development, even though there is a need to promote sustainability in more significant ways. Research Limitations/Implication: However, it is still important to broaden the spectrum of research in order to understand the effective implementation of sociocultural sustainability measures in other events and also understand the perspective of participants. Originality/Value of the Paper: The originality of this research lies in the study of the social and cultural dimensions of sustainability in events.Downloads
